Altes Zollamt.

The building that formerly housed the regional finance authority was constructed between 1841 and 1847 based on a design by architect Paul Sprenger and served as a customs office during the monarchy. Even at that time, it was a place of diversity and a transshipment point for goods from the countries of the monarchy and abroad. After standing vacant for a long time, the classicist building is now being renovated for the Austrian Integration Fund.

This renovation work is being documented with photographs. The entire historic building has been photographed from 2023 to the present. The focus of this work lies in the transformation of a historical building that was significant to the history of Vienna and is being restored to its former importance through revitalisation. The images are intended to show the path of reviving this once-prominent structure.

A building that served as a place of encounter in the past and is destined to become one once again in the future. The project shows the fusion of the old historic building with new modern elements. Old values are being dusted off, and a breath of fresh air is being brought into the historic halls. The building serves as a metaphor for change, which can likewise be observed in the course of integration processes within society.
